We (Göteborgs Wing Tsun Skola) are the association for you who want to train and develop within Wing Tsun (also written Wing Chun) in Gothenburg.
Here we work with knowledge of and respect for the traditional Wing Tsun / Wing Chun system and its methods. The training should give you as a practitioner the ability to apply the system in sparring and in self-defense situations and be practiced in a relaxed atmosphere and productive learning environment.
Our training places great emphasis on the efficiency and simplicity of the Wing Tsun / Wing Chun system. We also work to ensure that students not only learn individual techniques, but also the underlying principles behind them. The techniques are mastered under controlled circumstances and the students are then encouraged to experiment and use the techniques in increasingly varied and challenging situations.
We train in small groups and refrain from excessive formalities between students and teachers. We strive to maintain a good community and good cooperation, instead of a competitive atmosphere. Our goal is for everyone to train to get better and to further master the system. Here, everyone helps each other to develop.
Wing Tsun (also spelled Wing Chun) is a Kung Fu style originating in southern China. The style is well known for its effectiveness and is well applicable in real self-defense situations. The form of training emphasizes simplicity, relaxation and emotional training.

There are several reasons to practice Wing Tsun / Wing Chun with us. Wing Tsun / Wing Chun is excellent as self-defense, but the training is also suitable for you who have been inspired, want to develop in something new or be part of a social, fun-filled and committed context.
You probably have a good reason to try Wing Tsun / Wing Chun, you too. Welcome!
In an effort to master Wing Tsun, several different types of training are used. Below you can read about some of our ways to train.
By training the different forms of Wing Tsun - that is, a series of movements - we learn technique, increase our mobility and train our muscle memory. The first form is called "Siu Nim Tau" - also called "Sil Lim Tao" - and can be translated to "Little Idea Form".
Lat Sao is a form of exercise where practitioners train movements together, usually in pairs, towards each other. This is the form of exercise that is most similar to a real situation.
Chi Sao can be translated as sticky arms / hands. This exercise is practiced in pairs and what is characteristic of Chi Sao is that the practitioners never lose contact with each other. When practitioners only use one arm / hand each, it is called Dan Chi Sao.
Chi Gerk can be translated as sticky legs / feet. This exercise is practiced, just like in Chi Sao, in pairs and with constant contact. Chi Gerk trains your leg / foot techniques.
Muk Jong is a so-called Wooden Dummy. At Muk Jong, the practitioner trains his technique in solitude and this training is especially good for working at angles and directions in the different techniques.
In the training we also use swords of different variants in wood and long pole.
Wing Tsun contains a number of different techniques, mainly arm / hand techniques and leg / foot techniques. Below you can read some examples of techniques we learn in training.
Kuen means fist and usually refers to straight fist strike.
Tan Sao is a dispersing and averting technique, where the hand is open and the palm is facing up.
Bong Sao is an averting technique, where the forearm is twisted and crosses your midline.
Biu Sao is a technique that works both as an attack and an averting technique. In this technique, the practitioner attacks by thrusting his fingertips at the opponent.
Wu Sao means the protective arm / hand and is the rear gard, always ready to attack.

Our programme is composed of twelve grades, after which the student is considered to have reached the instructor level. In the four first grades one learn the basics of the system. Grades five to eight focus on sensitivity training and reflexes. After that, the students develop higher proficency and fluididy, with stronger emphasis on sparring.
At each stage, the student progresses in various areas including the traditional forms (siu nim tao, cham kiu, chisao), the underlying skills and concepts (footwork, hand and upper-body techniques), and applications (self-defense, sparring).
After completion of the student programme, which usually takes several years, one can study the parts of the system which are traditionnaly considered "secret":
the biu jee form (鏢指)
the wooden dummy form (muk yan jong, 木人樁)
the double swords (bat jam do, 八斩刀)
